Leading housebuilder, Bellway Homes is developing 88 new homes at Scotland’s largest regeneration site, Heartlands, close to Polkemmet Country Park in West Lothian.

With prices ranging from £146,995 to £189,995, Bellway Homes will offer a mixture of well-planned three and four-bedroom properties, targeted at the family market.

The Heartlands Business Park at Whitburn has secured its first major business tenant, having concluded a deal with Oil States Industries (UK) Ltd to develop a new state-of-the-art facility.

Fifty-nine P6 and P7 pupils from the Whitburn area have got stuck in to a hands-on project to bring West Lothian’s Heartlands development to life.

Children from Croftmalloch and Whitdale Primary schools worked together to plant two thousand bulbs around the £650m development on the site of the former Polkemmet mine.

Negotiations are at an advanced stage with a major employer who recently submitted a planning application for a sizable industrial fabrication facility with associated offices and yard space. Subject to planning approval, construction work is expected to commence early in 2014 bringing much need employment opportunities to the area.

With the first new homes on the Taylor Wimpey being completed and occupied, another national house builder, Bellway Homes, have submitted a planning application on the Heartlands site for a further 88 homes.

The weekend of the 14th – 15th September saw Taylor Wimpey host their open day to show their new houses within the Heartlands Development. With magicians, jugglers, face-painting and a cup-cake stand it was a real family affair.

In the early hours of Saturday 14th September saw Scotland’s newest motorway junction, 4A open to traffic. During the night the final cones were removed and shortly after the first car entered Heartlands from the M8, having been officially opened on Wednesday by Keith Brown, the Minister for Transport & Veterans.

Balfour Beatty has successfully removed an existing farm access bridge over the M8 between junctions 4 and 5 to enable the slip roads for the new Heartlands junction to be completed.

Work on Heartlands Junction 4A continues at a tremendous pace and it is anticipated it will be open by the end of August / start of September. Most of the structural components are in place and as can be seen from the photo the south roundabout and sliproads are taking shape. It is interesting to note that Junction 4A (the newest junction) is only a few miles along the M8 from the very first junction, Harthill Junction 5, which was built in 1965.

Balfour Beatty has lifted the main bridge beams into place for the new Heartlands junction being constructed for Ecosse Regeneration between junctions 4 and 5 on the M8.

The lifts were successfully completed over two weekend night time motorway closures, despite being hampered by severe weather conditions during the first weekend.

The Heartlands Development at Whitburn has reached a major milestone with work set to begin on the construction of a new, privately funded M8 Junction. The new junction will provide the main access route to Heartlands, a £650m business, retail, residential and leisure destination, providing around 4,000 new jobs.
